Half Term

It is half term and I am sooooo ready for it!  Lots to do as usual but it will be nice to have some time.

Beachoct07

Skipsea Beach

Straight from work on Friday we headed out to the caravan for a long weekend.  I would love to have stayed longer but J is working Tuesday to Friday. We have rented out the caravan on those days and then we are going back for the second weekend.  The site stays open until January so we are just going to see how tough we are in the cold weather!  Maybe after the bonfire weekend we will only go for the odd weekend up until Spring.  They weather this weekend was a little cooler but it was dry and bright and perfect for wrapping up and walking along the cliff tops and down onto the beach.

Heartbreak2

The Heartbreak Kid

Rata

Ratatouille

We saw Ratatouille & The Heartbreak Kid at the cinema too.  I loved Ratatouille and listening to the little kids giggling in the cinema warmed my heart and really made the whole day for me.  When a song came on during the movie, a group of little girls who were sitting on the front row, got up and danced.  I had forgotten how cute and adorable kids can be and boy, do they know how to enjoy themselves! I didn't really like The Heartbreak Kid all that much, it had some funny bits but i found it dull in places and my mind started to wander. I began thinking up excuses to walk out of the cinema and go shopping instead.  I did stay and see it through though.

My to do list for the days I am back at home

  • take rubbish from garage to tip
  • set up new freezer in garage
  • stock new freezer with homemade soup and casseroles etc to make things easier when i am back at work.
  • list bag of unwanted items on ebay
  • sweep yard
  • phone Grandma and have a nice long chat.
  • bath and groom dog
  • get car MOT'd
  • make some christmas cards (i am serious?!)
  • phone silly tax credit people who have messed up and assumed my 16 year old left school and didn't go to college.
  • cook something different from my recipe collection
  • sort out 'my documents' folder and arrange recipes etc

I won't do all this but I will try to cross a few things off.

For tea last night we had chilli with jacket potatos.  I have been hungry all week on this diet and had been thinking about this meal all day...I love chilli.  I am made a healthy version and also left off the sour cream (boohoo) and butter. Tonight we are having a healthly stew but I am throwing some dumplings into the family pot and they have beef in there too the lucky devils.  I just have veggies.  How exciting.  I am thinking of making a nice family dessert too but I haven't decided yet.  What shall I make?  Do I have enough willpower to resist? We shall see.

* updated to do list - didn't do it all of course but at least i managed to cross some more off it!

Be Prepared

Brownowlsguidetolife

I am reading this book. I was a Girl Guide from the age of 11 until 15 and I adored it.  I've been thinking back to those days and how much fun I had going to the weekly meeting, doing weekend activities like holding jumbles sales, camping, rehersing for Gang Shows or working on one of my badges (Homemaker, Laundress, Writer, Child Carer, Rambler, First Aider, Thrifter, Cyclist....can you remember any others?)  I was Poppy Patrol Leader and eventually I was allowed to carry the flag in the Remembrance Sunday March.  Looking back this is one of my proudest moments as I am a very shy person and I don't know where I gained the confidence to do some of these things, I wouldn't dare now.

I did my best.

I always honered my Girl Guide promise;

I Promise that I will do my best, and do my duty to God, to serve the Queen, to help other people, and to keep the Girl Guide Law.

And I was always prepared (well maybe not always!

Each chapter starts with a quote from the girl guide handbook and they are so funny and old fashioned but they do make good sense!  I will have to share some with you all when I've finished reading it.

Oh the memories!

Guide_annual

Were any of you Girl Guides or Brownies?

I think I should have stayed in the guides forever but sadly I discovered boys and things just went downhill from there.

yum

Ahhh....I am home alone.  Lovely.  No one to cook, clean or help with anything.  The night is all mine.  I am starting with some time reading blogs and enjoying  a lovely mug of Ovaltine light which tastes divine seeing as I am trying to diet and it is the first sweet thing I've had all day. I have a terrible sweet tooth, you can keep your crisps etc, give me chocolate.  Speaking of which, Carolyn informs us that it is Chocolate Week!  Who knew?  Trust me to be on a bloody dieting this week.  Oh well I will have to share some virtual chocolate with you...

Choccupcake

a choccy cupcake my favourite.

ooooh, look a chocolate bedroom....

Rooms_chocolate_large

it would be like sleeping in a box of chocolates, now that would be my dream come true!

Mediumarquette48

Anyway I am now going to watch the final episode in this series of medium which I recorded last night, I've really enjoyed it and can't wait for another one next year!
